Introduction
As TWT Audio celebrates a decade of providing quality headphones and headsets to educational institutions and schools alike, we sat down with Kurt, the Vice President of Sales at TWT Audio, to wrap up our 10th-anniversary leadership interview series and to discuss the company's approach to serving educators across North America. Kurt sheds light on the strategies that have driven TWT Audio’s success in the education sector, from understanding regional needs to building long-term partnerships.
Tailoring Sales Approaches to Educators’ Needs
Q: As the VP of Sales, how do you tailor your sales approach to address the unique needs and challenges faced by educators in different regions, such as Southern California?
“At TWT Audio we take the time to listen to each one of our customers to truly understand their needs. With that we can then begin to help by offering headphone or headset solutions that help support their goals as educators. The needs and challenges are similar in education across North America. They need durability so the products can stand up to the rigors of frequent use and affordability. The products need to fit into the budget, comfort that supports student engagement, and high-quality audio that allows students to hear and be heard. TWT Audio delivers in all of those areas.”
Building Long-Term Partnerships with Educational Institutions
Q: How do you build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers in schools and educational institutions to foster long-term partnerships?
“I expect our sales team to be subject matter experts and solution-driven. We build relationships based on trust, transparency, and providing solutions that help our education partners achieve their goals.”
Sales and Marketing Collaboration for Seamless Conversions
Q: In what ways do you collaborate with your marketing team to ensure a seamless transition from lead generation to successful sales conversions?
“Our marketing team is very active and engaged in our events, sales, and customers. We collaborate with marketing continuously to make sure we are providing content and valuable information to our partner and customer base. Our marketing team does a fantastic job of keeping customers informed on industry news, product announcements, promotions, audio insights for education, and all things going on at TWT Audio.”
Staying Informed on Education Industry Trends
Q: How do you stay informed about changes and trends in the education industry to adapt your sales strategies and our offerings accordingly?
“We feel the best way to stay informed about changes and trends is to be in the field working with and supporting our reseller partners and our education customers. We are always listening and learning about what’s positive and what’s currently challenging in education.”
Understanding Educators’ Priorities
Q: Can you discuss your approach to understanding educators' unique needs and priorities and how this informs your sales pitches and proposals?
“Our company was co-founded by an educator and we have many years of education experience on our team currently. I think that gives us a unique perspective on the highs and lows of working in education. We listen to understand and offer solutions to help.”
Positioning for Competitiveness in Educational Technology
Q: Given the evolving landscape of educational technology, how do you position your products and services to remain competitive and meet changing market demands?
“We are blessed with a passionate team committed to providing the best products and customer service in the industry. Each person at TWT Audio strives to raise their game every day. If we are successful in this, it translates to serving our customers at an exceptional level.”
Addressing Challenges and Aligning with Educators' Goals
Q: How do you address educators' concerns or objections during the sales process, and how do you work towards finding solutions that align with their goals?
“It depends on the challenge but one of our most common challenges is budget. Often the school or district will be limited on funds and set a very low value for headphones or headsets to fit within the limited budget. This can lead to purchasing products that aren't safe for student hearing and are generally very low quality. These low-end products end up breaking quickly, aren’t comfortable, have poor audio quality and all that ultimately leads to poor student engagement and wasted budget.”
Leveraging Customer Testimonials to Build Trust
Q: What role do customer testimonials and success stories play in your sales strategy, particularly in building trust with potential education clients?
“It’s validation, support, and a success story showing that TWT Audio products have solved a challenge and made a customer happy. We love to share those because they can help new education partners see themselves with that same situation and see the successful solution.”
Providing Excellent Post-Sale Support
Q: How do you ensure that your sales team provides excellent post-sale support and service to educators, fostering a positive and long-lasting relationship?
“We feel our team is very good at timely support and service. Whether there’s a question about our products, an issue that needs resolving, or our team is just checking to see how things are going….we want customers to know they can always count on TWT Audio.”
